Day Two: Tucson to Los Cruces Pt. 2

We had to leave Tucson at around 11:30 to meet with my aunt Beth in Tombstone Arizona. She's been in the area a long time and there is no better tourguide of the area than her. We found her right away after parking our car. It was more busy than she had expected and it seemed to be hopping. Went and got lunch at an decent place around the corner from the Crystal Palace. I can't remember the place, I should start writing this stuff down. Then took a walk around town and let her fill us in on the history.

Here's Jess in front of the OK Corral. She looks like she's spoiling for a fight. Anyway, they've walled off the actual site so that you have to pay admission to see the recreation of the gunfight to see any of it at all which is kind of a bummer. In the background you can see the sign and the wall. There are bleachers inside which I doubt existed at the time.

Beth and I in front of the same spot.

Fly's Photo studio is just up the street from where the gunfight took place. Apparently there was Fly's, then another building, then the corral which was little more than an alley with horses and people in it. And a bunch of angry guys with guns.

And the city hall...

And a shot down the street...

We had a good time. It was also nice to get out and stretch before the drive to Los Cruces. After we chatted with Beth for a while and I deposited some checks in an atm in the BofA (a nice touristy anachronism) we got in the car and headed east. After that the scenery is very pretty but it got dark and I didn't take any more pix. We listened to some This American Life courtesy of Arthur and Liza ( by the way thanks, that's been a nice diversion) and got some subway sandwiches. Our next stop was with my cousin Charles and his wife Kate, but they both had to be up really early the next day so we made it an early night.
